The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in Anaheim, CA for the first time in promotional background last Saturday (July 29, 2017) using UFC 214: Cormier vs. Jones II. It was an entertaining night of action that saw half of the bouts end inside the space, and with all the scraps now in our rear view, let’s take a look at which of the evening’s opponents we may no longer see going to work within the Octagon…
Kailin Curran
A decision dropped to Aleksandra Albu at a scrap. She’s now on a three-fight losing streak within the Octagon, falling to 1-5 in the UFC. Following the defeat, despite setting up a good effort and winning the next and final round of this struggle, I think there’s a fantastic likelihood that the advertising releases her out of her contract, considering I thought she’d certainly get released after her previous defeat. At this time, she is in what we call”Jessica Eye land,” therefore it would not totally be a shock to see her receive a final opportunity for a third time.
Josh Burkman
Burkman was knocked out in the first round of his bout from Colorado’s Drew Dober. The loss puts him onto a four-fight losing streak in the UFC, the last two of which have now come from first-round finish. He retired following his previous reduction, which had been a first-round, north-south choke entry against Michel Prazeres, leaving his gloves at the Octagon. But he changed his mind and returned to the Dober bout. Whether he retires for good or not, I believe it’s fair to say that we’ve seen the last of Burkman inside the Octagon, and I don’t expect to find the Ultimate Fighter 2 veteran returning for a third stint with the promotion.
